Does no one else see the irony and hypocrisy?
Paul W : When people, whether he or she is claiming to have all the answers and present them dogmatically, the incongruity and hypocrisy does rear its ugly head. I agree with you, that both, proponentson each side of the "coin" addressing a higher power, seldomly do know what he or she is talking about. The "us and them" syndrome, which all too often rears its ugly head, is usually the outcome in such debates. In my own, experience with God, I have discovered (for me - myself), that God does prove Himself in both, the means, ways and time HE deems appropriate - or He wouldn't be God - would He? Remember; there are people, who think they are Christians who haven't even, got a clue. when asked to give account for "why" he or she believes in a higher power, they do only, "because someone told them there was". Similarily, non-believers, in this case "Atheists", can seldom prove there isn't a God and hold to the Evolutionary theory because, "someone told them it was true". Both sides are presenting at best, "educated guesses" - but nonetheless, "guesses". Now; when you have attempts by both sides to change one another, you have "irony and hypocrisy" ! My brother in-law is both a nuclear physcists (Scientist) and a Christian and has both sides of the "argument" nailed down. I, myself, am a Christain and do agree with you, well knowing that AUTHENTIC science and Christianity DO complement one another - which has been my experience. The "irony and hypocrisy" belongs on the side of the presumptuously ignorant !
